From dining room to concert hall

The classic nursery rhyme “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” evoked tears at St. Vincent de Paul on a recent evening during one of The Phoenix Symphony’s regular performances for guests of the Family Dining Room.

Not in their usual repertoire, the rhyme's performance came as a surprise, especially to eight-year-old Victoria, who studies in SVdP’s Dream Center and is learning to play violin.  

Tipped off that the Symphony would be visiting, Victoria brought along her violin to the dining room, hoping the musicians might have some extra rosin to spare for her bow. She’d been going without, as rosin just isn’t in the family budget. 

Not only did the Symphony musicians supply her with rosin, but they also invited her to join them on stage to everyone's surprise. When Victoria said she could play “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” the quartet happily accompanied her.

“I cried when it happened,” said Cindy Bernardo, Family Evening Meal program manager. “It was one of those magical moments that I’m so blessed to witness in our dining room.”
