Top 5 thrift store donations

SVdP Director of Retail Operations Mike McClanahan shares the items our thrift stores always need

No matter what time of year, there are always items in the back of closets or sitting in garages that could be of great use to St. Vincent de Paul. That means there is no excuse to clean house and make a trip to your local St. Vincent de Paul thrift store to drop off unwanted items.

Every donated household item, piece of clothing or furniture is either sold or given directly to someone in need. Your donation also helps fund other SVdP programs and services, which means that mismatched dresser or last season’s dress could help provide nutritious meals, educational programming or a bed in Ozanam Manor, our transitional housing program for seniors, veterans and adults with disabilities.

With five store locations in the Valley and 10 additional locations across greater Arizona, there’s bound to be a SVdP thrift store near you.

Not sure what to give?

SVdP’s Director of Retail Operations Mike McClanahan shared the top five donations he and the thrift store staff are always happy to receive:

JEANS

Quite simply, we can't get enough of them! And if SVdP doesn't sell your donated jeans in four weeks, they go to the clothing closet at our Resource Center to be given to individuals experiencing homelessness.

T-SHIRTS

As far as clothing, Mike says everyone has a T-shirt laying around that they haven't worn in years. If it's still folded in the drawer or hanging in the closet, it could make a great donation instead. And like jeans, any T-shirt that isn't sold may eventually end up helping clothe a person in need who visits SVdP for help.

SHOES

We're always looking for lightly used shoes for both adults and children. Typically smaller sizes are in high need. If they've got some tread on them, donate 'em!

FURNITURE

Redecorating? Gently used furniture is a top seller for SVdP thrift stores. If that sofa, dresser, night stand or kitchen table still has some life in it, consider donating it. Sometimes your furniture donations helps start a new home for a person moving out of Ozanam Manor, our transitional shelter.

APPLIANCES

No surprise here. Gently used appliances are another top seller at SVdP thrift stores. We'll take your mismatched washer and dryer or that freestanding microwave you no longer need. It's sure to make someone else happy all while supporting SVdP's work in the community.
